In the 1990s there were many varieties of art and music. Art itself didn’t really play a major role in the 90s, but music did. Music was really big during this period of time. Every one would listen to whatever they were into. During this time two major artists who really stood out who were Tupac and Biggy Smalls. These two artist stirred up a battle between the east coast and the west coast.

There were many types of form of music from country music to hip-hop music. One of the most recognizable forms of music from the 1990s was rap. Many people criticized this type of music because of what they said in their songs. The rappers would promote homophobia, violence, profanity, rape, street gangs, drive by shootings, vandalism, thievery, drug dealing, and alcohol abuse. People looked at rappers as the bad guys, but in reality they were just normal people trying to put food on the table for families.

In the 1990s there were a couple of artist who really took off and were getting known. A rapper named Tupac Shakur born in East Harlem, Manhattan, New York City, New York on June 16, 1971.He died at the age of 25 in a drive by shooting in Las Vegas, Nevada. His songs were usually about growing up around violence and hardship in ghettos, racism, problems in society, conflicts with other rappers, problems facing young black males, but he was criticized for the language he would use and how he would talk about law enforcement. Through his songs he inspired many black males during this time. There were other people who just hated his music. While Tupac was doing what he was doing on the east coast there was a new and upcoming star on the west coast. Little did these two individuals know that this rap game would soon turn into a crime scene.

On the East coast there was a new rapper on the block. His name was Christopher Wallace AKA The Notorious B.I.G. He was born in Brooklyn, New York City, New York on May 21, 1972. He was also killed in a drive by shooting in Los Angeles. Biggy was mostly known for his loose, easy flow with a talent of piling multiple rhymes one after another. The things he would rap about were the things that he went through in life. Like his drug dealing past, materialistic bragging, humor, and romance.       Even though these two rappers were involved in the coastal feud between east coast and west coast. They are still recognized to this day as two of the best rappers. The death of these two people really were memorable. They influenced many people through out the entire nation. Although they were seen as bad people they were just normal people trying to make it in the real world.
