As the Civil War erupted, so did the manufacturing of new and improved weapons. America was at war and needed better machinery to help win the war, thus the creation of much new weaponry that killed thousands and thousands of men.

One of the most famous weapons used was the Dictator. This weapon was able to launch a 220 lb. projectile into the air, which then burst into hundreds of fragments which made it the deadliest weapon. Another weapon that was used was the Gatling Gun. This gun was pretty much the first machine gun created. It had the ability to shoot up to 1000 rounds per minute. It was able to be used for long periods of time wihtout over heating, which gave the people using it an advantage. Although it was used in the war, it wasn't the most popular machine, and was not used as ofen as rifles.

The most popular gun used by the Union, was the Colt Revolver, which was later replaced by a single-action varient after the colt was discontinued. Grenades also played a big part in the war. The North, actually experimented with Ketchum granades, while the Confedracy used spherical hand granades which weighed a little over 6 pounds. Another type of granade they used was the Rains and Adams grenades,which looked a lot like the ketchum granades

The Civil War was the development of lots of new weapons, such as granades, rifles, and machine guns, keaving its imprint in the world.
